ReplyDeletewish it would not be so difficult... stupid little heart :(
ReplyDeleteI really need to stop trying to analyze what these are....my brain won't let me!! This is so cool - floating in air just in front of the lens these little waffle worlds. Soothing lavender to go with those words which I love.
ReplyDeleteAida Spiro, Gemma Costa, Andreas Levi and Janine Viviane Hofmann -- I feel that I must respond to all of you first and tell you what has befallen me ... because, yes, it is not something that is easy to do, to focus on what makes you happy in hard times. I tend to post sayings that I need the most at the time of posting. At the end of last week, I discovered the most shocking, saddening news. My first reaction was expected, I cried long and then made myself sick with anguish. During the weekend, I battled with it, only to discover even more painful things as I tried to pull it apart and away from me.
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I was going to post my anguish to my friends here, but something steered my hand and heart and I instead dug up an image that made me happy in the moment it was created and posted that instead along with lighthearted words. The comments that came from everyone made me smile––and I started to realize what a blessing it was to have so many lovely people around me here. This caused me to focus more and more on what was around me that was good in my life. As I focused my attention this way, the stomachache and headache that came from the anguish and upset started to subside. The more that I wrote and thanked people for bringing me smiles of their own, the more the hurt dissipated. The horrible event did not go away, I could still see it clearly––but when I placed my focus on what was still good in my life, I found myself less at the mercy of its destructive force.
I spend all of this time to write this to you because you matter and I care and I want others to gain something from my travails. I agree, it is not easy to do ... I am still battling the pain this morning ... but battle it I will, because I have the certainty that, while the event itself came from elsewhere, its ability to destroy my happiness comes from myself.
I wish you all the best, and send a thank you to those of you who wrote kind words, too.
With love, Robin
Robin Griggs Wood you honestly cannot know how much this post, photo, and your comment above have meant to me this morning. I too was battling anguish this weekend from an unexpected event that left me feeling something akin to despair. A feeling that I too was lost in the deep frost of winter. But I have realized that while we often cannot control the events in our life, we can certainly control our reaction to them. I too have begun to focus on all the good people and things in my life and am also finding that the more I focus on what I have and what will be coming as opposed to what is dissipating or lost, the better I feel. Grief is a long and laborious process, but we can shorten it considerably by how we manage it and by learning that "letting go" can also be a form of liberation.
ReplyDeleteAre you alright dear Robin Griggs Wood ? You seem to have caught something and it looks like a purple lady :o)
ReplyDeleteNeat by the way.
Very beautiful shot Robin Griggs Wood and very wise words :)
ReplyDeleteVery Nice Marco Robin Griggs Wood. It's fun to explore it. I would like to see it as well on a large gallery wall 6 by 8 feet or so ... ;o)
ReplyDelete"Stay Happy, ... let go of the things that makes you sad..." Exactly, I found that the easiest way to do so, is to look from a position above you. (meta-layer, or see you life like viewed on stage) In other words, if one sticks in his/her own center, it makes it harder to recognize what the sad "stuff" is.
The hardest part to recognize it, is where the society expect that "one" has to feel sad right now, and where "one" is as well in agreement to it, because it was never really thought about it, if it is really a true feeling at the moment.
Sassi Sassmannshausen good comment, good advice for life, consistent with Buddhist philosophy/teachings, it's often hard to do when your in the situation but it's a positive approach/practice
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Gerry Daniel especially for the reference.
ReplyDeleteI do not pretend to have mastered it, but I have my "light" moments even in "dark" moments :o)
Sassi Sassmannshausen I am by no means an expert but from my perspective our experience here is not about reaching a destination, it's about how we navigate the journey - happiness, compassion, enlightenment, exploration, awareness
ReplyDeleteLynn Langmade -- I am so very sorry to hear that something bad has happened to you, but I am glad that my words offer some support. What can come from the terrible things that can happen in our lives if we can't then use them to help others? It's an endless down-spiral of misery otherwise. I don't think that we can push away true grief lightly, but we can ameliorate its power to continue destroying our lives––and we can use the strength that is possible to be gained from such situations to elevate others in similar situations. I know that you are the kind of loving person that will do this as well. Hugs to you, dear lady ... and an especially deep one towards your recent travails.
ReplyDeleteSassi Sassmannshausen -- such a great comment. Yes, if we can try to put ourselves outside of the situation, if only for a short time, it is easier to see it. And your comment about society's expectations of us, and how we "should" express our sadness, is so very true and a good thing to recognize. Thank you very much for that thoughtful comment.

ReplyDeleteI too am sorry that something so strong has come to disrupt your life. It is easy to say that we are in control of how we respond to those shocks but it takes a strong person to make that shift and truly turn the focus back to the good in your life and put the anguish into perspective. Congratulations on the strength and balance to achieve that Robin.
