Mind Over Medicine

Mind Over Medicine
Scientific proof that what you think effects your health?
I am a big proponent of this … but then, it actually works for me. I know there are a lot of people who have difficulty accomplishing it, however. There is no doubt that it takes some genuine honesty with oneself to pull it off to any great effect. That honesty is the hardest part.

"Lissa Rankin, M.D. is a physician whose research led her to discover that our bodies have natural self-repair mechanisms that can be activated or disabled based on thoughts, beliefs, and feelings that originate in the mind.

"Her search uncovered not only proof that you can heal yourself, but also the shocking physiological mechanisms of how emotions like fear, loneliness, pessimism, and depression can make the body sick, while love, intimate connection, optimism, and faith can cure you."

The video is long, so, if you are interested, bookmark it for later:

I find fascinating some of the naysayers in the comments there … I know there are a lot of folks that cannot accept even the tiniest notion that they have any responsibility in the condition of their health. I would, at the very least, recommend "test driving" the concept for at least a month or two before making assertions that it is BS … ;o7. There is nothing deleterious in the concept (except, if you are chucking all your meds cold turkey and doing only this … that's probably not the best approach).

  1. Agreed. There are many times i want to tell folks that they are the cause of their own ill health but then I'd probably get accused of stressing them out ... and I can't be responsible for the reason they are off work... again!

I know there are genuine times but equally there are times when I just want to yell get a grip.

  7. Makes sense to me. I remember a few years ago that there was some sickness going around. I told myself that I refused to get sick, and I never did. I never seem to have more than a sniffle and sore throat, I don't have time for more serious stuff.

  8. Stuart Dyckhoff -- haha ... yes, well there is that approach to it. I suppose it is a bit frustrating at times to listen to people go on and on about their ill health if they haven't tried to do anything about it except for depending on "others" to fix it.
    David Bockman -- thanks ... I'll check that out later ... :o)
Rob Lopes -- thanks, my friend ... ;o) (Sassi took it ... ;o7)

  15. I have been thinking I was going to die since I was 15, and I have a rotten attitude. Strangely enough, I am in good health!

  16. I live with two different disabilities. I don't look disabled (whatever that's supposed to mean). I know what it means to be intensely "in touch" with one's own health.
I've heard and read a great many things about long life and good health, and frankly most of them are just getting on whatever the latest bandwagon is and riding it until the wheels fall off. I've dealt with doctors (osteopaths and "traditional" allopaths, not to mention a few dentists I never want to see or hear from ever again) that couldn't get out of their own comfort zones long enough to be helpful--and at least two that were seriously hurtful to myself and others. I've had friends with real serious problems get wrapped up in the evangelizing of practitioners of "medicine" that should have sought out divinity degrees instead (and then promptly started up their own cults).
The fact of the matter is that wherever one seeks advice he still has ultimate control over his own health so long as his own mind continues to function (in the absence of advance directives, of course). May he choose an all-natural path, an allopathic one, or something more blended is up to him. That doesn't make it easy or hard--it just is.

  18. The brain/mind controls the body so it's bound, and is proven, to have an effect. Quite an amazing effect, something the budhists figured out a long time ago. And the Hindu. And the native Americans. And three Australian aboriginals. And and and :-)

Love this image. Who's the beautiful model?

  19. Robin Griggs Wood - right there with you, my friend...though I drift away, from time to time, and experience definitive proof of the negative effects when I do. We "are" what we think...and eat. :)

  20. Robin Griggs Wood I have as yet watched this ... but from my own experience... I do believe that your pretty much RIGHT ON with this.. I have for a long time tried to tell people that more times than not.. healing comes from within.. yes taking some medication is important.. but some is needles.. and only brings about more aliments..  I have FM/ Fatigue ..Lupus and all the rest that seems to follow along... ..  at first I listened to the doctors and took their meds.. which in the end.. only caused more distress for my body.. for years  now I have been OFF meds.. and I am doing a lot better than most with these diseases..  so good for you sweetness.. and I hope that more people come to accept this... FACT...
been awhile sense I have been able to visit with you.. hope all have been well for you and yours.. sofest of hugs my dear friend..

  24. Hi  Robin you look beautiful and at peace here. I know being depressed and having a negative attitude can make you sick so why not the other way it only makes perfect sense to me. I will watch the video and see if I can get some positive results the docs are not helping me very much they just say here take this other pill and lets see what happens. I don't really like the trial and error method of treatment. Hope your weekend has been a good one :))

  27. Good stuff! Thank you Robin Griggs Wood for sharing this and the beautiful image too, your taking a stand on the subject is greatly appreciated. I am also excited to watch the video, my go-to source on the subject is Bruce Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief and I am happy to have another resource. I too have had great success with the healing power of self-peace, solid nutrition, and helpful removal of environmental toxins... which allows me to operate powerfully with Fibromyalgia, IBS, Anorexia, Sciatica, and Complex Migraines that were brought on by multiple head traumas, severe emotional/physical abuse, injuries, and an accute neuro-toxin exposure. The degree to which I function and have healed is miraculous and I attribute it all to BELIEVING I can! Being a positive voice for change is a choice and I thank you for choosing to share/stand. Huge Hugs!!!

  28. Gazzaroonii T. -- it very well could have been that I read it wrongly. And I am very sorry to hear that you have had such clearly painful occurrences in your life. Really, I am. In truth, all negativity is born on the back of painful emotions and terrible things that have happened to a person. It's up to us whether we perpetuate it or not. Thank you for removing the comment. Huge hugs to you, for your terrible losses and, mostly, for being the awesome person that you are.
